Washington Homeownership Resource Center (WHRC) seeks new members for our Board of Directors. Board members are volunteers who represent WHRC positively to the public, private industry, government agencies, grantors, and at events. Board members contribute their expertise and time to advance organizational goals.
WHO WE ARE:
WHRC is a nonprofit organization with a mission to increase and preserve homeownership in Washington state by educating and empowering current and future homeowners. Through our hotline, website, and online portal, we provide personalized information and referral to vetted homeownership supports, including homebuyer assistance programs, pre-purchase education and counseling, mortgage and property tax foreclosure intervention counseling, reverse mortgage counseling, repair assistance, post-purchase education, legal aid, and credit counseling. We operate the state’s official Foreclosure Prevention Hotline. WHRC partners with elected officials, government agencies, lenders, and community organizations to advocate for resources, programs, and protections for homeowners across Washington. WHRC is also a proud Black Home Initiative partner, and is engaged in homeownership equity efforts statewide.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Participate in board activities such as financial oversight, strategic planning, Executive Director (ED) evaluation, fundraising, board recruitment, promotion of organization in the community, and support of ED in implementation of mission and strategic plan.
- The board meets virtually 6 times per year.
- The Executive Committee meets virtually once per month.
- The full board meets for an annual one-day retreat virtually or in-person.
- Increase administrative and programmatic support for WHRC to increase sustainability for ED.
- Engage in advocacy on behalf of WA homebuyers and homeowners.
- Collaborate on development of a funding plan that ensures long-term organizational stability.
- Develop a strong board that balances governance with active participation needed by our small organization.
- Ensure WHRC’s commitment to a diverse board and staff reflective of the communities WHRC serves.
EXAMPLES OF SKILLS YOU CAN BRING:
- Lived Experience using homeownership assistance programs or foreclosure prevention resources
- Knowledge of project management, marketing, CRMs and/or adoption of new technology to help connect WHRC to resources and potential clients.
- Connection to and/or knowledge of policy, advocacy, and political environment surrounding homeownership and foreclosure issues across WA state.
- Command of fundraising strategies and tools to support our efforts to develop and carry out a practical plan.
- Expertise in HR or financial management of a nonprofit or in nonprofit accounting.
- Legal expertise relevant to nonprofit work and affordable homeownership.
- Banking, real estate, nonprofit or government background.
